A Academia de Televisão divulgou essa semana os indicados à edição 2020 do Emmy, evento considerado o Oscar da TV. As indicações foram anunciadas em um evento com transmissão On-line e apresentado pelos atores Leslie Jones, Laverne Cox, Josh Gad e Tatiana Maslany. Watchmen foi o maior destaque da lista deste ano com 26 indicações. A produção da HBO teve 7 indicações nas principais categorias – Regina King, Jeremy Irons e Yahya Abdul-Mateen II concorrem a prêmios.
Como já era esperado a Netflix recebeu 160 indicações por suas produções e ultrapassou novamente a HBO que conta com 107 indicações. Outras produções que se destacaram foram The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, com 20 nomeações na categoria comédia e Succession e Ozark que ficaram empatadas com 18 indicações na categoria drama. A série The Mandalorian surpreendeu com 15 indicações.
Nos últimos dias os candidatos aos prêmios receberam uma carta da organização informando que a tradicional festa em Los Angeles não será celebrada em Los Angeles este ano devido a pandemia da COVID-19. Mesmo assim, o evento foi confirmado e será transmitido On-line com uma equipe de técnicos, produtores e autores especialistas que irão filmar os concorrentes em casa ou em local de sua escolha, segundo anunciou o mestre de cerimônias do evento, o humorista Jimmy Kimmel.
